Fact Sheet on HMW 15The star is a member of the extremely young cluster IC 348 that is in the constellation of Perseus and has a distance of about 300 pc, or 1200 light years.
Figure 1: A portion of an image of IC 348 obtained with the CCD camera attached to the 0.6 m Perkin telescope of the Van Vleck Observatory, on the campus of Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT. North is at the top and East to the left. This I-band image covers about 5 arc-minutes on a side. Many of the cluster members can be seen.
Figure 2: The light curve of HMW 15 over eight years.
Figure 3. In addition to the actual data (as X's) we show the data reflected about the point JD=2451905.0 (as dots). It is clear that the light curve is remarkably symmetric about that date, although not perfectly so. Identifiers:Trullols & Jordi 108 (Trullols, E. & Jordi, C. 1997, A&A 324, 549) ICRS 2000.0 coordinates V = 15.82 (Trullols & Jordi), 15.90 (Herbig) J-H=0.96 (Luhman et al. 1998), 0.88 (2Mass) Spectral type: G8 (Herbig 1998),G8-K4 or K3-K6(IR; Luhman 1998) This is the range of spectral types reported for the star. H-alpha is in absorption according to Herbig. Effective Temp: 4730 K (Luhman et al., 1998) Radius=2.15 solar radii (based on T_e and L_bol) as given above |
